Manchester United beating Liverpool to Xherdan Shaqiri with £18m bid

Manchester United are winning the race to sign Liverpool target and Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international has publicly criticised the German club and manager Pep Guardiola over a lack of playing time, and the ‘Alpine Messi’ is desperate to leave in January.
Both Louis Van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers were keen on signing Shaqiri over the summer as they looked to reshape their squads ahead of the Premier League campaign, but Bayern refused to sanction a departure for the 23-year-old.

However, reports claim that the Bundesliga champions have now told potential suitors to cough up £18million if they want to secure Shaqiri’s signature, and the Red Devils are ready to agree to Bayern’s terms.

Liverpool are yet to decide if they too will meet the demands, but after losing out to Arsenal for Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez following the World Cup, Rodgers could yet convince Shaqiri that his future lies at Anfield.
