Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry Could Return For Third Spell With Gunners
The French striker, currently of MLS side New York Red Bulls, is widely regarded as Arsenal’s greatest player of all time, topping the club’s scoring charts with 228 goals in all competitions in two spells.
However, the 37-year-old may now be heading towards the end of his great playing career, with his future in New York unresolved as he nears the end of his contract in the US.
Henry’s legendary status at Arsenal could mean his return to the north London giants is met with much excitement, and while Wenger is keen to have him back, he insists that the player will have to learn the role first.
Still, Wenger believes Henry has the qualities to succeed in coaching, saying: “Has he the quality to be a manager? Yes… but he has to decide to sacrifice his life.“I welcome people who have played for us to come back but not (for just) an honorary job.
“He has to learn the job first. I have seen so many who have the qualities and they have not survived their first job because they are not ready.”
Other former Gunners have returned to the club in a coaching capacity, with ex-defender Steve Bould currently Wenger’s assistant manager, replacing another former player in Pat Rice a few years ago. Martin Keown has also worked with the club as a defensive coach in the past.
